Chefchaouen to Marrakech desert trip itinerary:

Day 1: CHEFCHAOUN (bleu pearl) – VOLIBULIS – MEKNES- FES.

5 days Chefchaouen Marrakech desert trip departure: After the traditional breakfast, we leave Chefchaouen (bleu pearl), cross the Rif Mountains, and pass through green land which is full of different types of products. Arriving at the Roman site (Volubilis) is a partly excavated Berber city in Morocco situated near the city of Meknes, and commonly considered as the ancient capital of the kingdom of Mauretania. Built-in a fertile agricultural area, it developed from the 3rd century BC onward as a Berber, then proto-Carthaginian, settlement before being the capital of the kingdom of Mauretania. Driving to Meknes where we will have lunch and explore the main site of the city. Afterward, we will continue to the first imperial city of the Kingdom of Morocco where accommodation is in the old city.

Day 2: FES SIGHTSEE (CULTURE TOUR).

Today you will have almost 6 hours exploring the city of Fes with a local guide. The tour is divided into two parts. The first will be by car as you will see the royal palace gate, the Jewish quarter, panoramic view of the old city and the ceramic factory to see the traditional Moroccan handicraft. Afterward, you will have enough time to see the inside the wall of the medina including Tanneries, the Bou Anania Medersa and Karaouine mosque. In the afternoon you have the view of the new medina and the sunset time at the panoramic view of the old city.5 days Chefchaouen Marrakech desert trip

Day 3: FES- MIDDLE ATLASS MOUNTAINS- MEDALT- Ziz gorges- MERZOUGA (Camel rides)

After breakfast you will meet your diver/guide again and you will start your long day where you will see different things in one day. Our itinerary will start from the first imperial city of Morocco (Fes) toward the Sahara desert. We will travel through the middle Atlas Mountains. In our way, we will pass through the city of Ifrane which is known as “Moroccan Switzerland” because of its building. We will continue to the home of the native barbarian apes which the cedar forest, the largest and the biggest one in Morocco. After crossing the Middle Atlas Mountains we will see many tents and caves of the nomadic families before stopping at the city of Medalt which famous for the apples. En route, and before arriving the camel rides we will have a stop at the palm groves which is an impressive view of the palm trees.

Day 4: MERZOUGA- RISSANI- TOUDRA GORGES- DADES VALLEY

While you were enjoying the sunrise at the heart of the dunes and taking beautiful memories your camel man will take you back to the hotel where you will enjoy your breakfast and having a hot shower as well. Later on, we will drive to Dades valley passing through the city of Rissani/Sijilmassa which is one of the main stops of the commercial caravans that coming from Africa. On Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday there will be an opportunity to visit the traditional market of Rissani. We drive to Todra gorges as the main place of having a picnic because it is a wonderful view. Arriving at Dades valley where you will have an overnight in a hotel that sheds the light and have a good view of the valley.

Day 5: DADES VALLEY- ROSES VALLEY – OUARZAZAT- MARRAKECH

Today we travel off-road and explore the region between the Dades Valley and the Valley of Roses. You will encounter the local nomads, some of whom still live in caves and tents. At El-Kelaa M’Gouna up to 4000 tonnes of rose petals are picked every spring to be processed into rosewater or exported for the perfume industry. The Rose Festival is held here in May. As we travel from El-Kelaa M’Gouna towards Skoura you will see Kasbahs set out among the greenery of the Dades Valley. The small town of Skoura is surrounded by an impressive palm grove and the most beautiful Kasbahs in southern Morocco are to be found here. Continuing south we arrive at the Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, probably the most celebrated, filmed, and photographed Kasbah in Morocco. Featured in numerous films (including Lawrence of Arabia, The Sheltering Sky, and Gladiator), it is the best-preserved Kasbah in Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Day 4: MERZOUGA (exploring the area of the Sahara desert)

After breakfast in the riad/hotel, you will start an explorative journey of the area. You’ll visit the Gnawa people, originally slaves brought from Sudan, to experience their music and lifestyle. After that, we will drive in the desert area where you will have the opportunity to meet the nomad families still living in Berber tents and explore their way of life. Today our lunch will be a local meal (Berber pizza) with a local family. You may also visit the souk in Rissani, a traditional town that was the origin of the ruling family in Morocco and the meeting place of the Caravans trading as far as Timbuctou in Mali. Here you will see a lot of men hooded and women veiled. The final stop will be at the camel place where we are going to ride them and spend an overnight in the nomadic tent and enjoy the company of a band playing Berber music under the stars in the heart of the desert/ Sahara, This a beautiful experience that you might need to film the desert/ Sahara.

Day 5: MERZOUGA- RISSANI- TOUDRA GORGES- DADES VALLEY

While you were enjoying the sunrise at the heart of the dunes and taking beautiful memories your camel man will take you back to the hotel where you will enjoy your breakfast and have a hot shower as well.
